The 6 Top Hot Weather Fails That Ruin Your Hair Color

You’ve found the perfect color and here’s how you can keep your gorgeous hue looking as fresh and vibrant as the day you got it colored – despite the elements.

Don’t Sweat It!
Leaving hair exposed to sweat. Sweat will cause your hair to get dry, which makes your color fade and become brassy. Next time you hit the gym, put some oil or conditioner into your hair before pulling it back into a ponytail. Sometimes the summer heat makes it hard to stay dry, but the conditioner trick is one we swear by for protecting strands from sweat.  Give it a go, you’ll notice a big difference!

Wait Before Washing.
Although the scent of the dye may be tempting to wash out asap, we recommend you leave it be for at least two or more days.
The hair needs time to seal. If you shampoo or rinse right away, you’ll be removing some of that pigment.

Till Dye Do Us Part.
Parting your hair in the exact same place, will fade your color right along the divide as the sun hits it. This is especially bad if you’ve got an ombrĂ©, as keeping your roots darker is such a big part of that look. So switch sides when you’re spending time outdoors or pull it up into a tight bun. Which leads us to: Sun Protection. Applying a product with UV filters is a great way to protect your color, but just like on your skin, it needs to be reapplied when spending time in the sun. So take along a spray leave-in – we recommend Goldwell. The other alternative? Get a hat.

The Wrong Shampoo
Sulfate-free shampoos are a must. And always finish with a cool rinse to seal the cuticle.

The Wrong Styling Products
When choosing a styling product make sure it doesn’t contain any alcohol. It will dry out hair, making it more porous, which can lead to color being stripped. Keep away from hairsprays and gels. A moisturizing cream is a better alternative.
